About RAWW

The Residents' Association of West Wimbledon aims to protect and enhance the local environment and promote the interests of the local community.

It does this by responding to planning applications and issues raised by local residents, taking part in consultations on all major building development projects in the area and liaising with Merton Council. It delivers an annual newsletter to all households in the RAWW area to update residents on local issues, encourage new residents to join the association, and announce the AGM which normally takes place in early autumn.

A regular email update is issued to members about every 6-8 weeks, or more regularly if necessary.

Current priorities for the RAWW area are

  • reduction of tree loss,
  • greening of the area,
  • protection from over-intensive development,
  • ensuring that our open spaces are protected,
  • enforcement of the 20mph speed limit,
  • reducing air pollution, and
  • ensuring that good specimen trees in West Wimbledon are protected by Tree Preservation Orders.

RAWW is represented on, and contributes to the work of, these 2 residents' association umbrella groups:

Wimbledon Union of Residents Associations (WURA) – WURA has representatives from RAs covering most of the Wimbledon area including Wimbledon Village, Wimbledon Park, roads off the Ridgway, north west Wimbledon and much of Wimbledon Town. It is a forum where information and actions on issues affecting the wider area can be shared and agreed.

Raynes Park Association (RPA) – The RPA focus is on the Raynes Park local centre. It has representatives from RAs covering areas on all sides of the centre, councillors representing those areas, and people running businesses in the local centre. The Association has played a leading role in the improvements to the centre achieved in recent years.
